JETS!!

I was fortunate to attend the very first Jets’ hockey game last night.  It was only an exhibition game but it sure didn’t feel like one.  It all started out with me finding out that my season seats were fabulous and I have a bird’s eye view of the ice and can still see the players’ faces.  The pre-game was predictably loud as the crowd chanted ‘JETS! JETS!’ at random.  I could not believe I was watching our own team play in the NHL once again. Prior to the puck dropping, there was a video tribute to the NHLers who passed away this year.  Those killed in the Russian plane crash were also remembered.  It made for a somber moment but that quickly changed as the focus changed to center ice in anticipation of the first Jets’ faceoff.

Within the first half a minute of play, a fight ensued, much to the delight of the fans. Our Jets played like they thought it was a regular season game and surprised Columbus 6-1.  Some notables were the plays of Byfuglien, Burmistrov and Mark Scheifele.  This team is going to be an exciting bunch and I can hardly wait for regular season.  Don’t be surprised if they finish the season in the thick of things..

On a side note, I was hesitant to chant ‘Go Jets go!’ as the last time we said that, they actually went…all the way to Phoenix.  Maybe ‘Stay Jets stay!’ is the way to go.
