Christmas Card For The Baby Sitter

Having three kids under the age of 5 is no easy task. Trust me, I should know and if you have 3 or more and don’t agree, then you must know something that I don’t.  It is even more difficult when parents do not have outside support in the form of family and friends, to chip in regularly with babysitting etc.

We have been lucky for the most part.  Our parents are available and willing to help in their limited capacity and our friends are usually reliable and can be count on when in a pinch.  One person standing out in this regard is our neighbor and babysitter. (let’s call her S). She is only 14 but is one of the few teenagers people that we feel comfortable leaving the boys with for a length of time.  She is more than just a neighbor and more than just a babysitter. She is their best friend, their play date, a God Mother and our life saver. I call her the daughter we never had.

In today’s gadget-filled world, it is difficult to find a teenaged babysitter that is genuinely interested in the kids that they are babysitting.  They would spend the time texting, listening to music or playing a hand-held video game while supposedly watching the kids.    S is very mature for her young age and has a very good head on her shoulders. (She is also not a texting teen) As a matter of fact, at 12 years old, we made her one of the boys’ God Parent.  She is our main go-to person and some of memorable date nights would not have been possible without her.

At this Christmas Season, on behalf of the boys and the entire Walcott family, I would like to acknowledge her in a blog. (she is also my number one follower).  S, when you read this, know that we appreciate all that you have done throughout the year to help us out in our times of need.  Thanks for being there and I wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!
