This morning our 16 year-old Brazilian exchange student decided she would dress a little more like a Brazilian than an Eskimo and traded in her warm and comfy sweats for some short shorts to wear around the house. Kenyan, yes that same precocious 6 year-old, took one look and remarked, “Yasmin, are those shorts or underwear?”
That boy is something else. Great observation but not too many would say it. I too thought they were border-line but I’m old school. My daughter would probably not wear any type of shorts until she was 20 if it the decision was mine. Or Kenyan’s.
In our changed and changing society, risque is in. For someone Kenyan’s age to notice that Yasmin’s shorts were so short that it was hard to tell if they were shorts or underwear, says a lot. But kids do say the darnedest thing…
I’m glad YOU said it, son.
